hello? anybody home?

How to describe the feeling of watching my political party descend into total incoherence? One part astonishment, one part resignation?

I figure it must be something like watching your parents get old and sclerotic. Seeing good old dad, who used to lead lively discussions about politics at the dinner table, become babbling and clueless, ranting on about old slights, blaming the bosses for the fact that he never got to be an Ambassador. Watching mom, who used to be lucid and could quote Keats by heart sitting in her wheelchair, drooling, while she dredges up triumphant moments from her life that never happened or recalls lovers who never loved her.

The Democrats reaction to the President’s speech last night is so sad, so utterly pathetic in its mindlessness that it’s not even possible to summon up contempt.

I think this is a fair summation of what the Democratic "leadership's" major “point” seems to be:

“The President ought to be ashamed for once again trying to hoodwink the American people into believing that there is a connection between 9/11 and what’s happening in Iraq today.”

Hello? Anybody home?
